Two hearts

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Yesterday we celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

And we are celebrating Jesus' Heart all month long.

With help from cousin G, we made the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary using brown colored papier mache hearts from Hobby Lobby  --  red tissue paper was mod podged onto the hearts.  Red and orange tissue paper formed the flames which we glued into the tops of the hearts.  Brown pipe cleaners for Jesus' crown of thorns and sparkly pink flower embellishments for the roses on Mary's Immaculate Heart.  Popsicle sticks formed the Cross on Jesus' heart and the sword on Mary's heart, although toothpicks would have worked too.

We got the inspiration for the hearts from several bloggers, including Wildflowers and Marbles.    Gae at Cherished Hearts at Home did a lovely similar craft using felt and wool fleece.

We added a silver thread loop at the top center of the hearts, to hang the hearts.

Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing,
You reign now in Heaven with Jesus our King.
Ave Ave Ave Maria
Ave Ave Maria.

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto Thine!

  3. This weekend I am in Steubenville, Ohio, at Franciscan University for a Charismatic Catholic retreat. I am not particularly Charismatic so it's been an experience for me, but I've also felt the presence of the Holy Spirit working in me. I'm about to head to the closing Mass, and I will remember your beautiful family in prayer while I'm there.

By the way, I am going to make those Sacred Hearts when I get home. Those are great!
