Celebrating The Feast of St. George

Last night I posted five posts:  liturgical folders for Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday.  Check them out if you have a moment.

St. George's Feast Day is April 23.  He's one of Little Flower's favorite Saints, probably because he slays the evil dragon !   We celebrated St. George early this month, since his Feast Day will fall on Holy Saturday this year.

Little Flower is enjoying this book about St. George:

Flower painted some St. George coloring pages . . .

from our liturgical folder, which is HERE (scroll down a bit in that post).

The link to our liturgical folder (above) links to these coloring pages.

Red is big right now.

Actually, all the colors are big right now.

Especially if they are overflowing from the paint cups.

Read more about St. George, and the story of the dragon, which is symbolism for evil in the world, HERE .

Saint George, pray for us !

Text inside the folder:

John 20: 1-9  On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.”  So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.  When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.  Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed.  For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.

John 13:1-15

Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. And during supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper, laid aside His garments, and girded Himself with a towel. Then He poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. He came to Simon Peter; and Peter said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?" Jesus answered him, "What I am doing you do not know now, but afterward you will understand." Peter said to Him, "You shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part in Me." Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!" Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but he is clean all over; and you are clean, but not every one of you." For He knew who was to betray Him; that was why He said, "You are not all clean."

When He had washed their feet, and taken His garments, and resumed His place, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was betrayed took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me." In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.

Text inside the folder:

Matthew 21: 6-9
The very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road,

while others cut branches from the trees
and strewed them on the road.
The crowds preceding him and those following
kept crying out and saying:
“Hosanna to the Son of David;
blessed is the he who comes in the name of the Lord;
hosanna in the highest.”
And when he entered Jerusalem
the whole city was shaken and asked, “Who is this?”
And the crowds replied,
“This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee.”

St. Hermano Pedro

Saint Hermano Pedro de Jose Betancourt's Feast Day is April 18.  It's not for another week, but I'm posting about this wonderful Saint now, since I hope we'll be focusing more on Christ's final days next week during Holy Week.

Saint Brother Pedro is the first and only Guatemalan Saint.  While he wasn't born in Guatemala, he did his saintly work there, and died there.

Like many Saints, we have only depictions and renderings of Saint Pedro, because there are no actual pictures of him.  He lived so long ago.

A statue of him in Antigua, Guatemala . . .

and another.

He is usually shown ringing a bell and holding a walking stick, because he walked through the streets of rich neighborhoods ringing his bell and extolling people to repent and live a Christ-like life.

Read more about Saint Brother Pedro, and check out my liturgical folder on this holy man HERE.

This is the Cathedral of San Francisco in Antigua, Guatemala . . .

where the tomb of Saint Hermano Pedro is . . .

Other wonderful sights in the cathedral . . .

Saint Hermano Pedro de Jose Betancourt, pray for us!
