Rosary Link Up

Lacy at Catholic Icing is hosting a Rosary link-up this month.
Here's one of the ways we plan to celebrate the Rosary this month.

Our Lady of the Rosary -- October 7

The coloring page hand drawn by Vee at Paper Dali is here. The second coloring page of Mary is here.  The coloring page of the Rosary is here. I chose the Hail Mary prayer for this folder.

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed
is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

And I found another pretty Rosary coloring page HERE.

Folder for Feast Day of Saint Katharine Drexel

Here is a Saint folder I made for Saint Katharine Drexel whose feast day is March 3.

The Coloring page is from Faith Keepers CD which I bought at Soft Saints HERE.
Three Prayers/Quotes:

“The patient and humble endurance of the cross
—whatever nature it may be—
is the highest work we have to do.”
– St. Katharine Drexel

“If we wish to serve God and love our neighbor well, we must manifest our joy in the service we render to Him and them. Let us open wide our hearts. It is Joy which invites us. Press forward and fear nothing.” – St. Katharine Drexel

Our Lady said to Katharine:  "Freely you have received, freely give."

Born in 1858 to Francis and Emma Drexel, Katharine grew up in a happy, devout, and wealthy Catholic family in Philadelphia. Her parents were greatly loved and admired by many for their kindness and generosity to the poor and needy.

After the death of her parents the young Katharine decided to use all the fortune she had inherited to help the less fortunate in America, especially the Indians and African Americans. Acting upon the words she had heard come from a statue of Our Lady,  and from the direct advice given her by Pope Leo XIII to become a missionary, Katharine Drexel became a religious sister and founded the order of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in 1891. Mother Katharine and her sisters worked tirelessly to serve the material and spiritual needs of the downtrodden through numerous schools and institutions she established around the country. She died in 1955, and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2001.

Saint Katharine Drexel, pray for us !

Saint Folder for Saint Maria Goretti

St. Maria Goretti -- July 6

This beautiful little saint gave her life for Jesus, to protect her purity.

coloring page here and from Faith Keepers CD HERE.  Lily (for purity) and cross coloring page HERE.

Prayer HERE, or copy the one I used:

I WAS CREATED AS A UNIQUE CHILD OF GOD.
I am special! My body was made in God's image. I
will cherish my body as a gift from God.

Born in Corinaldo, Ancona, Italy, on October 16 1890; Maria's farmworker father moved his family to Ferrier di Conca, near Anzio. Her father died of malaria and her mother had to struggle to feed her children.

In 1902 an eighteen-year-old neighbor, Alexander, tried to assault her. When Maria said that she would rather died than submit, Alexander stabbed her with a knife. As she lay in the hospital, she forgave Alexander before she died. Her death didn't end her forgivness, however.

Alexander was imprisoned and was unrepentant until he had a dream that Maria gave him flowers. When he woke, he was a changed man, repenting of his crime and living a reformed life. When he was released after 27 years he went directly to Maria's mother to beg her forgiveness, which she gave. "If my daughter can forgive him, who am I to withold forgiveness," she said.

When in 1950 Maria was canonized by Pope Pius XII  for her purity as model for youth, Alexander was there in the crowd at St. Peter's Basilica to celebrate her canonization.

St. Maria is called a martyr because she fought against Alexander's attempts at assault. However, the most important aspect of her story is her forgiveness of her attacker -- her concern for her enemy extending even beyond death. Her feast day is July 6. St. Maria Goretti is the patroness of youth and for the victims of assault.

Saint Maria Goretti, pray for us !

St. Catherine of Siena -- April 29

Read more about this lovely saint HERE and HERE.
Coloring page hand drawn by Charlotte at Waltzing Matilda HERE, and second coloring page by Faith Keepers CD, HERE.
Prayer:
PRAYER OF SAINT CATHERINE OF SIENA
"Lord, take me from myself and give me to yourself."

Quote of St. Catherine of Siena:

"Charity is the sweet and holy bond which links the soul
with its Creator: it binds God with man
and man with God."

St. Catherine of Siena, pray for us !

Preparing for OCTOBER Saints and Feast Days

October is filled with many days for celebrating feasts and Saints.  Of course, we'll cebrate St. Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower, and HERE is that post.

Some other October Saints and feast days we'll be celebrating:

Guardian Angel -- October 2

The prayer and coloring pages are here  and here.

Angel of God
my Guardian dear
To whom God's love commits me here
Ever this day be at my side
To light and guard,
To rule and guide.  Amen

Also check out HERE for an Angel dot to dot page.

St. Francis of Assisi -- October 4

Coloring page of St. Francis from Faith Keepers which I bought through Soft Saints, here. Coloring page of Saint Francis from Coloring Saints, here. Coloring pages of deer here, wolf here, and bird here.
Two more beautifully detailed coloring pages HERE.
The prayer I chose is the one St. Francis prayed before the San Damiano cross:

Most High, Glorious God.
Cast your light into the darkness of my heart.
Give me right faith, firm hope, perfect charity and profound humility,
with wisdom and perception, O Lord, so that I may do
what is truly your holy will.
Amen

Our Lady of the Rosary -- October 7

The coloring page hand drawn by Vee at Paper Dali is here. The second coloring page of Mary is here.  The coloring page of the Rosary is here. I chose the Hail Mary prayer for this folder.

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed
is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque  -- October 16

She is known as the Saint of the Sacred Heart.
Read about this saint here and here.

Two coloring pages are from the Faith Keepers CD, here.  One coloring page of St. Margaret Mary is from Waltzing Matilda HERE.  Another one from City Wife Country Life HERE

I chose two prayers.  This first one I adapted from a longer prayer, to be age-appropriate for my daughter.

Jesus said to Margaret Mary:

"Behold this Heart which has so loved men that it has spared nothing … .”
Dear Jesus, I don’t want to be a lukewarm heart.
I want your love to burn bright in my heart.

                              -----

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be adored, glorified,
loved, and preserved throughout the world,
now and forever. Amen.
Sacred Heasrt of Jesus, pray for us.
Holy Mary, mother of Jesus, pray for us.
Saint Jude, help for the hopeless pray for us.
St. Jude, worker of miracles pray for us.

St. Margaret Mary was a Visitation nun and the first person to begin the Catholic devotion to the Sacred Heart.  The fifth-born child of a French family, Margaret discovered a gift for mystical prayer, which led her to enter the Visitation monastery.
From the time she was 20, Margaret experienced visions of Christ. In a series of revelations, Christ mourned the world’s indifference and charged her to spread devotion to the Sacred Heart.
Margaret responded with alacrity. She instituted the Feast of the Sacred Heart as well as a devotion known as the Nine Fridays. Devotion to the Sacred Heart flourished under her example, infusing Visitation convents far and wide.

Her emphasis on the Sacred Heart made her a natural for Visitation, along with her simple, grounded philosophy. “Accept with a good heart what Our Lord shows you to be applicable to yourself and do not bother about the rest,” she said.

Pope John Paul II has commended her extraordinary attentiveness. “Let us give thanks for the mystical experience of St. Margaret Mary,” he once said. “She had been given a remarkable calling, but in a hidden life, to know the power and beauty of the love of Christ.”

St. Jude -- October 28

Oh I do love Saint Jude.  He has helped me through many "desperate cases," and "things despaired of."   I will enjoy reading up on St. Jude's biography before we celebrate his feast day, to refresh my memory on his holy life.

Coloring page from FaithKeepers CD HERE, and another one (not pictured) from City Wife Country Life HERE.  Although I love St. Jude's novena, I chose this prayer, as more age-appropriate for my 3-year old:

St. Jude, help for the hopeless, pray for us.
Saint Jude, worker of miracles, pray for us.

Do you want to join in and create a liturgical folder to celebrate a Saint or other feast day? Use the ones I've used, or check out Xhonane's folders at Familia Catolica, here. Or create your own. I'd love to see them.

"The Little Flower" and her Little Way to Jesus

We're getting ready at our house.  The Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux, The Little Flower, is October 1.

We'll be decorating this week, and I'll post about that later.  In the meantime, here are our Saint folders for St. Therese, The Little Flower.

St. Therese of Lisieux -- October 1

St. Therese of Lisieux is a favorite saint of mine. I claimed her as my personal patron saint many years ago.  She has been showering roses on me for many years, and has intercessed for me on countless occasions.  I created two folders to celebrate her. Here is the first one:

The first folder has two coloring pages hand drawn by Charlotte at Waltzing Matilda here.  And one coloring page from Faith Keepers CD, here.  And a coloring page from Coloring Saints, here.

The prayer I chose:

St. Therese, the Little Flower, please pick me a rose from the heavenly garden and send it to me with a message of love; ask God to grant me the favor I thee implore and tell Him I will love Him each day more and more. Amen.

Here is the second folder:

The second folder's coloring page is hand drawn by Vee at Paper Dali here.  She also provides all the drawings of Therese's accessories which I included in the second folder.  Another coloring page here.

The prayer I chose for the second folder:

St. Therese Prayer

O glorious Saint Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and counsel mankind, I implore your Miraculous Intercession.

So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a "Prodigy of Miracles...the Greatest Saint of Modern Times." Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention specifics here) and to carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good upon the earth...of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses.

Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will fulfill your plea "to be made known everywhere" and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen.

Saint Therese at age 8

Want to join in and create your own Saint folder on St. Therese ?  Xhonane at Familia Catolica will be creating one soon too, and I'll link to that when it is posted.

St. Therese at age 13

Read more about St. Therese HERE.
And Read about St. Therese's "Little Way" to Jesus, HERE.  An excerpt:

"Therese's spirituality is simple and she calls it her "little way". She believed and teaches us that life presents enough challenges and opportunities for grace. She teaches us that God is everywhere - in every situation and person - and in the ordinary, simple details of life."

"The smallest action, done with love, is more important than great deeds done for personal glory, gratification or simply out of obedience. Therese teaches us that Jesus is everywhere and is the power for love and goodness operating within us. Such is the power and presence of grace. Therese's life was hidden. To many even in the convent, she seemed like such an average, ordinary person. Her greatness showed in the constancy of her love for others in the most simple ways."

St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy face,
the Little Flower,
pray for us !
